Client-Server Networking

In addition to the local network, this system can also be applied to client-server where there is a computer unit which functions as a server which only provide services for other computers, and the client is also just request a service from a server.

Access is done transparently from the client by first logging in to the destination server. Client can only use the resources provided by a server in accordance with the authority granted by the administrator. Applications that run on the client side can be a resource available on the server or the applications that are installed on the client side but can only be run after connecting to the server.

Client-Server type of service include:
  1. File Server - provide file management service functions.
  2. Database Server - the functional processes of the database running on this machine and other stations can be requested sevice.
  3. Print Server - provide services printing functions.
  4. Document Information Processing - DIP provides storage services functionality, management, and retrieval of data.
